From the start, this album displays its one musical influence boldly, with just one keyboard-supported riff that eventually becomes irksome, snarling vocals being the main focus. ‘Where The Wind Beats Incessant’ sounds better, at 10 minutes’ duration there is more time to get habituated to the mournful mid-tempo riff, with cymbal patterns maintaining support. After five minutes the beats get just that little bit upbeat with a riff very evocative of the aforementioned musical influence. The finest track on this release is courtesy of ‘The Clear Moon…’ which is just ‘Filosofem’-style ambience: no drums, just a minimal amount of vocals at the end, only simple lines on keys and guitar that create striking magical textures. ‘To The Black Tower Of Victory’ starts with a solitary blast-beat before creating a menacing environment on basic elemental music. As far as production goes, this is almost adequate for what it tries to convey, but the treble is too clear at expense of bass frequencies. The lack of variation in melody is not inherently distasteful, but inability to sustain a suitable ambient texture immediately exasperates.
